Music Video Filming Blog

Image
My group an I had previously decided to start filming our music video between the dates 11/20/20 and 11/30/20. These dates were also when our school district had thanksgiving break scheduled for. This year for thanksgiving break we got a whole week off of school so we thought that would be the perfect time to film. Our original plan was to go to one of our group member's house and film most of the scenes there, however, we ran into a couple problems the week of our break. To start off, the family member of one of our group mates got Covid-19. She had no other option but to quarantine for two weeks which meant she would not be able to film on the dates scheduled. The group member's house also happened to be the house at which we were planning to film in and had based our storyboard off of.      On top of that, the parents of another group member surprised her with a trip to Massachusetts for Thanksgiving break which meant she wouldn't be here on ...

Storyboard for Music Video

Image
First Scene The video starts off with a pan of someone sitting alone by a fireplace. They look sad and are reminiscing the times they spent with a loved one. Second Scene In the second scene, it flashes back to a memory that the actor had of them and the loved one by the fireplace. In this memory they seem to both be enjoying the moment. Third Scene In the third scene, the loved one is seen fading away and only the actor is left. This shows that the loved one has passed away. Fourth Scene In the fourth scene, the actor remembers a memory of them pushing the deceased loved one on the swings. They are both laughing and they look like they are having fun together. Fifth Scene  In the fifth scene, the person on the swing fades away and the actor is left alone. Flowers lie beneath the swing that the deceased loved one was swinging on moments ago. Sixth Scene In the sixth scene, It cuts back to the original fireplace with actor number one reminiscing. The actor seems to be staring off in...

Music Video Planning Blog

Props: We decided to make a music video with Cole Swindell’s song, You Should Be Here. When we record we will be looking back at memories of times we had with our past friend, so we will need casual every-day clothes. One of the scenes will be filmed in a bonfire, so we will need the bonfire and chairs. We will also need flowers and a picture frame that will be used to show the friend we are commemorating. We will probably use many other props that will come up once we start filming.  Costumes: There will be many people in the music video and there will be different costumes for certain scenes. Most will be casual outfits that resemble going to common places and errands. Schedule: On 11/16/20, we will research the common camera movements, angles, and characteristics of a country music video. On 11/17/20, we will plan the props and costumes needed, the schedule to make the video, the locations for every scene, and an emergency back-up plan. On 11/18/20 - 11/20/20, we will create a s...

Music Video Research Blog

Image
To begin our research, the four people in our group got on a FaceTime call all together to decide what themes we wanted to go with. It took us a while to actually get to work, but we eventually started. We decided on a sadder, slower, theme that reminisces life. This matches lessons that we have learned in the pandemic, and how to truly value our time. We all learned not to take for granted the special little moments shared with the people around us. These moments are what makes us us, and we learned to appreciate them way more, as we should. These lessons are what inspired our choices for our project. We chose the song, You Should Be Here by Cole Swindell. We watched the music video for this song along with other Swindell songs and other videos for different songs in the genre/theme. On the FaceTime call, we talked about what we wanted our music video to look like. We listened to the sing a couple times in order for us to fully understand the true meanings of the lyrics and g...

Introduction to the Music Video Project

Image
Introduction to the Music Video Project    For this music video project I decided to do it with three of my friends, Juanita, Abby and Ashlyn. We figured that by working together the project would be much less stressful than if we had done it separately since we could divide the workload. In the past, the four of us have worked together well. We all get along pretty good and are able to coordinate plans well. We have always produced good quality work that is on time whenever we have worked on projects together. Therefore, we decided that for this project it would be best for us to work together in a group.   For this project we decided to do the song "You Should be Here" by Cole Swindell. The reason we chose this song was because it went with the theme that we wanted the music video to have. We wanted our music video to be a sad and gloomy video in which the passing of a loved one is described. We wanted the song to really emphasize the storyline of our vi...

Bissell Zing Vacuum Commercial Reflection

Image
Bissell Zing Vacuum Commercial Reflection      My Bissell Zing commercial project challenges conventions because throughout the video multiple shots are filmed at different speeds and are transitioned together in a pleasing manner. For example, the very first two shots are filmed in slow motion which contrasts with the rest of the shots that are filmed at a regular speed. The first two shots were also transitioned into one another in a way that captivated the audience’s attention. The two shots were carefully put together so that they matched up and so that the bowl of cereal being spilled in both shots lined up. My commercial represents and demonstrates the use of Bissell vacuums and how convenient they can be. It highlights how positively impactful a Bissell vacuum can be on your everyday life and how much easier they can make your life. My commercial does this by emphasizing the functions of the Bissell vacuum and by demonstrating the vacuum while in use. ...

Bissell Zing Vacuum Commercial

Bissell Zing Vacuum Commercial    Overall, this was a very intriguing project which helped me further develop my skills when it comes to filmography, video editing, and my production skills. This project taught me what actually goes into making a film, even if it was only 30 seconds long.     During this project I learned how hard the filming process truly is. At first, I thought it wouldn't be that hard and that I would just get an idea, film it, and then that would be it. In reality transforming those ideas into film and projecting those ideas onto your project is a lot harder than it seems. For a lot of shots I would get an idea of how I wanted a shot to look like but then when I filmed it, it would turn out completely different. For example, in the first two shots of my commercial, in which all the cheerios fall in slow motion, I thought these would be simple to film and wouldn't take that long. I was, however, wrong. These two shots took me about an hour to film...

Bissell Vacuum Commercial Editing Blog

Bissell Vacuum Commercial Editing Blog    I started editing my Commercial on November, which was the day after I fully finished filming. I decided to edit my commercial on the iMovie editing software. While I was editing, one of my worries was that I would not have enough footage to reach the 30 second duration threshold. However, once I started the editing process I realized that there was plenty of footage to use.      A good amount of footage was not used due to having to keep the commercial at a length of around 30 seconds. There were a lot of clips that I had to either cut down or just take out all together. For example, in the first scene I had footage of the cheerios falling in slow motion from another angle. However, I had to cut this shot out because it added 5 seconds to the commercial and did not really contribute much to the commercial. I also had to cut a shot towards the end of the video in which I displayed the car in which later on would be...

Filming Blog   On October 31st, 2020 I filmed all the parts to my commercial at my house. I was the director and the person in charge of filming the commercial. My sister was the actor for my commercial. Throughout the filming process I was the one that decided how each scene was shot, from what angle, how the camera moved, and what the actor did in that specific scene or shot.  There were many scenes in which it took several takes to get the shot just right. For example, in the first scene I had to film a bowl of cheerios falling in slow motion and then splattering cheerios everywhere as it made contact with the ground. The scene however, was rather difficult to film due to bowl not correctly falling. When I would drop the bowl, sometimes it would bounce off camera and most of the cheerios would end up off camera too. Nonetheless, I kept reshooting the film until I got it to look exactly the way I wanted it to.    Throughout the second scene I struggled with t...
