Bissell Zing Vacuum Commercial Reflection

     My Bissell Zing commercial project challenges conventions because throughout the video multiple shots are filmed at different speeds and are transitioned together in a pleasing manner. For example, the very first two shots are filmed in slow motion which contrasts with the rest of the shots that are filmed at a regular speed. The first two shots were also transitioned into one another in a way that captivated the audience’s attention. The two shots were carefully put together so that they matched up and so that the bowl of cereal being spilled in both shots lined up. My commercial represents and demonstrates the use of Bissell vacuums and how convenient they can be. It highlights how positively impactful a Bissell vacuum can be on your everyday life and how much easier they can make your life. My commercial does this by emphasizing the functions of the Bissell vacuum and by demonstrating the vacuum while in use.


     My commercial engages the audience by having catchy music playing in the background that fits well and goes with the commercial overall. It also engages the audience by having a variety of filming angles and shot types. In my commercials I included low angle shots as well as high angle shots. There were also examples of a pan shot, a tilt shot, and a tracking shot displayed throughout the commercial. This commercial, as a real media text, would be distributed in platforms such as social media and television networks. My commercial would most likely be displayed during commercial breaks on TV networks. It would also be displayed on social media platforms such as youtube, Instagram, snapchat, and twitter, although Youtube would be the most likely option.


     Throughout this commercial my production skills have definitely improved. My filming skills have improved in the way that I now know which angles work better for certain situations and how to film from that angle. I have also learned how positioning the lighting in a scene or shot can drastically change the outcome and quality of the scene.


    Throughout this project, I integrated technologies such as software, hardware, and the resources that came from online. I used the software iMovie to put all my shots together and edit them. My camera and my computer are both examples of some hardware that I used throughout this project. I used both these devices to film my shots and edit them. I also went online to find and download the background music for my commercial.

   This past weekend, on March 6, we go together, and as mentioned in the past blog filmed some of the scenes we needed for our final task. However, since we were limited on the scenes we could film due to the unavailability of some actors, we decided to use this time wisely and do other things as well, other then film. For one, we rehearsed future scenes that we knew would need a couple takes to get right. We felt that rehearsing these scenes would make the process run much smoother on the day we actually filmed the scene. Research Blog: Commercial Conventions       I decided to do a Bissell Vacuum commercial. These types of commercials usually take place within what would be considered a typical household and feature the vacuum while in action. These commercials usually include shots of the vacuum in use on different surfaces. These different surfaces  include  surfaces like tile, wood, and carpet. Props for these types of commercials often include spilled items such as a cereal, pet food, etc. These commercials also many times use samples of a certain type of flooring. For example, a sample piece of carpet that isn't necessarily installed. Many of these commercials also include a shot of someone trying to use other vacuum cleaners that are not their brand and struggling with it. Editing Final Task: Adding sound

   Throughout the first week and a half of April, we met up several times to discuss the sounds that we would like to input into our music. We thought this would be a simple process but it turned out to be rather difficult and lengthy. The reason it was so difficult was due to the fact that we could not find any songs that we deemed appropriate for the vision we had for our title sequence. The first two times we met up on google meets we spent the entire time researching songs that would both be copyright free and that we would not have to pay for. We then added these songs to a folder on Juanita's computer so that we could later try them out. Once we had a good collection of songs, we went into iMovie, which is our editing software we are using, and started inputting each song one by one and letting the video play to see if it matched or went along.
