Final Task Production Blog: Refilming

On March 22, I went over to Harlow's house to re-film scenes 8 and and part of 9. Juanita, unfortunately, could not come due to her already having plans with her family. Since there was only one actor in these scenes we figured that it wouldn't be necessary for a whole other person to be there so we continued with the plan. The reason we had to re-film was due to the fact that Harlow got a haircut, so she looked different. Since we still had parts of scene 9 to film, we realized that the change in her appearance would be noticeable so we just decided to re-film scene 8 and part of 9.

When re-filming these scenes, we did make a couple changes from the story board and even from the last time we filmed too. For starters, in the beginning of scene 8, Harlow was originally supposed to fully open the door and then fully close it but we changed that to Harlow just half closing the door. We did this because we realized that this would match better with the previous shot, which was Harlow opening the door from the outside. It also took up too much time to have Harlow fully open and close the door. Something else we did in the re-filming was add a tilt in the first shot of scene 8. This was originally in our story board but we forgot to include it when originally filming. But now that we were re-filming we made sure to include it. In scene 8, there's a part where the daughter runs up the stairs which is supposed to be only one shot filmed from a low angle at the bottom of the stairs looking up. However, we decided to film another shot but this time from a high angle at the top of the stairs, looking down. This is how we filmed the mom running up the stairs, with two shots, so we thought it would be a nice parallel. We thought it'd do no harm to have an extra shot in their just in case, and we could always just not include it during the editing process.

When re-filming the beginning of the 9th scene, one thing we changed is that we added a pan. We added a pan when the daughter is seen walking into the kitchen. We realized that no where before we had included a pan, so we decided to include it here to add a nice touch. Another thing we added was that when filming the shot in which the camera is inside the fridge, we added some mayonnaise and a carton of eggs on the side of the shot. We thought this was a nice touch and really showed the audience that point of view is from inside a fridge.
