Editing Blog: Last Minute Touch Ups
On April 14th, Harlow, Juanita and I met up over google meets to finalize a couple things on our title sequence, such as adding titles. We added all the titles that needed to be included such as the director, actors, music by, etc. When doing the titles we started off with putting the titles on a google slides in order for us to test out different fonts and sizes to see what it would look like. We put a green background on it so that when we passed it onto our editing software, which was iMovie, we could use the green screen option to only make the words show up over the shots. It took us a while to find the right font because we felt that all of them were weird and did not fit our title sequence. However, after much deliberation, we decided on the Bakerville font at a 120 pt size font.
When we were re-watching our title sequence, there were many things we found that we needed to change. To begin, we realized that there were many shots that we needed to re-film. A couple of these shots included shots from scene 9. We realized that the emotion of the character was not being portrayed well which caused the audience to not understand the storyline as well. In these scenes the daughter is supposed to seem thoroughly surprised that she finds a note, but due to the acting, this is not portrayed that well. Because of this we re-filmed all of scene 9 to keep up the consistency. However, we ended up not using all of the shots we filmed, we only used the shots in which needed to be replaced. This is because these shots ended up going smoothly with the previous shots that had been filmed so we felt that there was no need to replace every single shot in the scene. An example of this is the pan that can be seen in the beginning of scene 9. We realized, once we finished re-filming, that the original pan was much better then the one we re-filmed. Since the reason we re-filmed was due to acting, and in this shot there wasn't much acting, we decided to just keep the original.
We also re-filmed scenes 4 and 5, which is where the mother can be seen writing the note and then putting it under the fridge. We re-filmed this because we noticed that when it went from one shot to the next, the mother's hand was placed on the counter in one shot and then gone in the next shot. We felt that this made the shots flow less so we re-filmed them. However, once we re-filmed and tried out the shots in out title sequence, we realized that the original shots that we had filmed looked much better then the ones we re-filmed, so we decided to just keep it how it was before.
When looking over our title sequence, we noticed in multiple shots that there were glitches within the shots. In every shot that there was a glitch we tried to delete the shot and re-upload it, which would temporarily remove the glitch. However, we quickly realized that the glitches would pop up at different times and in different shots every time we watched the title sequence. We tried to remove all that we could, however that proved fruitless, and so a lot of the glitches had to stay.
Before we published our title sequence, we asked a couple different people to review it just to make sure that we did everything good. When doing this, one of the people pointed out that the sting we had at the end came up rather quickly. We realized that they had a point and went back to try to fix it. We attempted multiple times to make the sting more gradual, and while it did get better, we were not able to get it to be as gradual as we wanted.
