Final Task Blog: Editing Process
On March 24th, Harlow, Juanita and I got together on google meets to continue our editing process. We had originally started this process with all of the scenes that included the mother due to those scenes being the only ones that we had filmed at the moment. However, ow we needed to edit the rest of the scenes and incorporate those scenes in as well. The very first thing we did was look through all of our footage and pick out the shots that we wanted to use and then sort them. We also took note of all the things we changed while filming that wasn't originally in our storyboard. This proved to be a rather lengthy task, taking us a couple hours, so this was all we were able to accomplish that day.
On March 29th, the three of us got together over google meets again to put together all the shots. When we put together all the scenes and shots we realized that our title sequence was way to long. Due to this we had to cut down a lot of shots or just straight up remove some of them. Right from the first scene, we had to cut part of the mother's running. The mother originally ran for about 9 seconds and we had to instead cut it down to about 5 seconds. Another shot we cut was a shot of the daughter walking down a hallway, into the kitchen right after she comes up the stairs. This shot we didn't necessarily cut due to timing but we cut it due to it not fitting right with the next shot. The next shot incorporated a pan of the daughter walking into the kitchen and when we put both shots together, they did not flow and looked choppy/weird. Since this shot was essential to the storyline we were trying to demonstrate we decided to cut it. Another shot we cut was a shot in which an eyeline match was made when the mother first runs into the kitchen. This eyeline match was supposed to show to the audience how frantic the mom was and that the mother had a plan in her mind that incorporated the fridge. However, due to the time restriction we had, we had to cut this shot out. We still had an eyeline match of the mother with the cabinet when she first walked into the kitchen so we felt that it would be fine if we cut this part out. After the removal and cutting of many shots we managed to get the title sequence to 1 minute and 54 seconds. We left a couple seconds to spare because there were still title cards that we had to edit in later.
