Editing Final Task: Adding sound
Throughout the first week and a half of April, we met up several times to discuss the sounds that we would like to input into our music. We thought this would be a simple process but it turned out to be rather difficult and lengthy. The reason it was so difficult was due to the fact that we could not find any songs that we deemed appropriate for the vision we had for our title sequence. The first two times we met up on google meets we spent the entire time researching songs that would both be copyright free and that we would not have to pay for. We then added these songs to a folder on Juanita's computer so that we could later try them out. Once we had a good collection of songs, we went into iMovie, which is our editing software we are using, and started inputting each song one by one and letting the video play to see if it matched or went along. After many trial and error we realized we didn't feel like any of the songs
we had chosen fit into our title sequence, so we went back and did more research. After repeating these steps of trial and error a couple times we finally found and decided on a background music for the first half of the title sequence, which is when the mother is running from her murderer.
However, after this there were many more sounds to be added. Another sound we added was the pounding that can be heard in the background while the mother is desperately trying to write down a note for her daughter. We recorded this pounding ourselves, each of us tried on our own, and then decided that the audio that Juanita recorded sounded the best so we used that. We also added the scene in which the the title "ENIGMA" pops up. The font that we had originally planned on using was unavailable so we had to decide on another font again. We ended up finding one that was similar, though, so it worked out. Another sound that we recorded was the mother's scream, which appears right before the title "ENIGMA" pops up. We had already a scream that had been filmed with the shot, but we felt that it could sound better, since the original scream was in a very dull pitch. We had the actor re-record the scream, but this time in a much higher pitched scream, and it ended up turning out much better since it emphasized the mother's fear better. Another sound we added was dramatic music when the title "ENIGMA" pops up. This is contrasted with the other sound we added which is birds chirping. This is the backgrounds sound to our establishing shot of the house the mother was murdered in but in the day time and also the background sound to the shots in which the daughter is seen walking outside. One thing we still did not figure out yet is what music we would use in the background of the the shots in which the daughter is in. We want the music for these scenes to be more calming and less dramatic then the scenes with the mother were since the daughter is not in any danger that the mother, in contrast, was.
