Music Video Filming Blog

      

     My group and I decided to start filming on Wednesday December 2. After the many obstacles that we had to overcome in order to get together and film we finally agreed upon a date. My group members and I all met up at one of our group member's house.  Due to certain circumstances revolving Covid and the safety of our group members, we could not go to the house we had originally planned to film at, and therefore some scenes had to be filmed differently than what the story board stated. 

     An example of this is the fireplace scenes that we had included in our story board. The house of the group member we had originally planned to film in had a fire pit in which we could shoot those specific scenes, the house we ended up filming at, however, did not. We decided to film these scenes on the beach instead, since the the house we ended up filming in was close to the beach. The beach scene still provided the audience with a similar feeling of sadness and loneliness that the fire pit scene did so it ended up working out well.

      The house we filmed in was also near a park. The park worked well for the scene in which we utilized a swing to emphasize and allude to a person passing away. In this scene, we filmed two shots in which we incorporated the swing. In the first shot, a person can be seen happily swinging. In the next shot however, the person has now disappeared and the swing swings with no person on it, a pile of flowers are laid under it. While at the park, we took advantage of the open space and brought a volleyball in order to film our volleyball scenes. In these scenes we recorded two shots like in the swing scene. One shot was the 4 of us happily playing volleyball and then the next shot is only three of us standing, holding the volleyball with sad expressions on our faces. This is to show that the 4th person in our group, has passed away in the music video.

      We all gathered props from our houses that resembled items from a party. We used these props to film one of our scenes in which we are all celebrating at a New Years party. In this scene we filmed two shots. In the first shot the 4 of us are seen having a fun time and enjoying themselves. In the second shot, however, the same person that had gone missing in all the other scenes disappears in this scene too, leaving the rest of the friends sorrowful.

   This past weekend, on March 6, we go together, and as mentioned in the past blog filmed some of the scenes we needed for our final task. However, since we were limited on the scenes we could film due to the unavailability of some actors, we decided to use this time wisely and do other things as well, other then film. For one, we rehearsed future scenes that we knew would need a couple takes to get right. We felt that rehearsing these scenes would make the process run much smoother on the day we actually filmed the scene. One of the scenes we rehearsed was the scene in which the daughter has a conversation with her neighbor. We wanted to rehearse this scene in particular because this scene is the scene that contains the most dialogue out of the entire project, so we knew it would do us some good if we already started practicing and memorizing some of the lines. Research Blog: Commercial Conventions

Research Blog: Commercial Conventions       I decided to do a Bissell Vacuum commercial. These types of commercials usually take place within what would be considered a typical household and feature the vacuum while in action. These commercials usually include shots of the vacuum in use on different surfaces. These different surfaces  include  surfaces like tile, wood, and carpet. Props for these types of commercials often include spilled items such as a cereal, pet food, etc. These commercials also many times use samples of a certain type of flooring. For example, a sample piece of carpet that isn't necessarily installed. Many of these commercials also include a shot of someone trying to use other vacuum cleaners that are not their brand and struggling with it. This further emphasizes to the audience that their vacuum is better than the average vacuum from their competitors. Editing Final Task: Adding sound

   Throughout the first week and a half of April, we met up several times to discuss the sounds that we would like to input into our music. We thought this would be a simple process but it turned out to be rather difficult and lengthy. The reason it was so difficult was due to the fact that we could not find any songs that we deemed appropriate for the vision we had for our title sequence. The first two times we met up on google meets we spent the entire time researching songs that would both be copyright free and that we would not have to pay for. We then added these songs to a folder on Juanita's computer so that we could later try them out. Once we had a good collection of songs, we went into iMovie, which is our editing software we are using, and started inputting each song one by one and letting the video play to see if it matched or went along.
