Intro Blog

Hello, my name is Jessica Guerra. I am a 15 year old in 10th grade who's currently attending Fort Lauderdale High School. Last year, while I was filling out my course selection card, the AICE Media Studies course peaked my interest. I had friends last year that had taken this class and had told me it was a very intriguing class. I've always been interested in things such as photography and video editing so I thought this class would be a perfect fit for me. I wanted to take this class primarily so I could improve my skills in the hobbies I find interesting, photography and video editing.

Some of my other interests include participating in sports. I enjoy playing volleyball and have been playing it since I was in the 4th grade. Last year,  I was one of the setters for the Fort Lauderdale High School girl's JV volleyball team. Volleyball is something I am very passionate about and love doing. I also enjoy playing Tennis. This is a hobby I have recently acquired and have only been doing for less than a year. Last year I was on The Fort Lauderdale High School Tennis team and thoroughly enjoyed it. Tennis is a hobby I did not think I would like but ended up loving.

Something I'm passionate about is the environment and how we need to do more to help the planet we live in. In my school, I'm in an environmental club called Surfriders. Last year, we did a big project in which we had staff and students collect plastic bottle caps and bring them to school. These plastic bottle caps are made from a specific kind of plastic that cannot be recycled, unlike the rest of the water bottle, and so often times they end up in our oceans. We then used these plastic caps to make a mural out of them, which is currently still in progress. We did this to not only put another use to these caps that would've ended up in our oceans and causing harm but to also beautify our school campus at the same time.

This is an example of another bottle cap mural which will be similar to the one in Fort Lauderdale High School once it's finished.
